Greece has a warm - soft and pleasant Mediterranean climate. In summer, dry hot days are often relieved by stiff breezes, especially in the north and coastal areas. Winters are mild in the south but much colder in the north. November to March is the rainy season. Greece's lowlands have hot, dry summers and rainy winters. The mountain areas are much cooler, with considerable rain in summer and snow in winter.
Warm weather in Greece begins from mid-April and cools late October. Temperature varies from 20 degrees Celcius to 30 degrees Celcius (65-85 F) in July (Athens is usually hotter because of the "urban heat island"). Humidity is low and this makes sailing extremely pleasant.
Winds during the summer vary in direction and are between 2 to 5 Beauforts with the period of the meltemi winds being an exception. Meltemi is strong during mid-July to mid-August and winds can reach forces of 6-7 BF.
